1 especially regarding the trend in Klay Thompson’s frustrating season

Dallas Mavericks guard Klay Thompson is a future Hall of Famer. however, Thompson struggled during the 2025-26 season. One particularly troubling trend may account for his struggles.
Thompson has always been a great one-rebound shooter, and he’s also more than capable of being a catch-and-shoot guy. Klay can also find the bottom of the net from most spots beyond the arc, and corner shooting has never been a problem before — until this season.
Thompson shot 43.6 percent from the corner for his career. His field goal percentages have been below his career averages in recent seasons, but still respectable. For example, he shot 39 percent from the corner last season. However, so far in the 2025-26 campaign, Thompson has shooting just 29 percent on his three-point shots from the corner, according to Basketball Reference.
Rather unusually, Thompson hit the side of the backboard twice during the game Mavs last game on Saturday — a 102-96 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.
It may be a downer, but Thompson appears to be out of action right now. Overall, he is averaging 10.1 points per outing on 34.7 percent field goal shooting and 32.1 percent three-point shooting. There’s a lot more to Thompson’s struggles than just the corner three, but it’s a worrying trend that certainly isn’t helping matters.
The third corner used to be one of Thompson’s most reliable shots. He would often sprint to the corner of the Golden State Warriors offense and connect on good looks. Perhaps the Mavericks’ current lack of play on the roster is taking a toll on him. Regardless, Thompson has struggled this year even with his good looks at the basket.
Thompson will try to find his rhythm on Monday night against the Heat in Miami.
