Shannon Sharpe gets brutally honest about the transfer of Carson Beck in Miami football
You can say that Shannon Sharpe not a fan Miami gets former Georgia quarterback Carson Beck from college football transfer portal. While Friday’s announcement sent shockwaves through the college football world, Sharpe believes Miami’s NIL deal with Beck will turn out to be a mistake by the school.
Sharp wasn’t surprised by the transfer decision, but by the reported $4 million contract Beck will receive from the school. The former secret end argued that the agreement is an example about how loose NIL money is being thrown around in the current era of college football.
“(Carson Beck is) a turnover machine,” Sharpe said on YouTube’s “Nightcap.” “Didn’t (Miami) see him last year? I’m very honest… If they give him money like that, hey, I’ll have another kid. You could be some ass sauce and get a million (and) halfway to getting two and a half (million).”
Sharp’s co-host, Miami football tight end Chad Ochocinco, also questioned the move. Ochocinco claimed that Beck “only looked the way he did” because of his supporting cast at Georgia, something he won’t have with the Hurricanes.
Beck announced his decision to enter the transfer portal after Georgia’s loss to Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff. He committed to Miami — the current school of his celebrity girlfriend, Hannah Cavinder — just days later.

The guard will have big shoes to fill in Miami when the 2025 season begins. The transfer from Georgia will serve as Mario Cristobal’s successor 2025 NFL draft prospect Cam Wardwho led the Canes to a 10-3 finish in 2024. Ward threw for 4,313 yards on the year, second most in Division I. Ward committed to the Hurricanes in 2024 from the transfer portal after spending the previous two years with Washington State.
Ironically, it was Beck who entered 2024 as one of the top quarterbacks to watch before the draft. He was considered by some to be the best quarterback in the class, but his stock declined as the season wore on. By the end of the season, Beck had thrown for 28 touchdowns with a career-high 12 interceptions.
Heading into his fourth season in Coral Gables, Cristobal has been known to target quarterbacks from the transfer portal. He was responsible for bringing 2020 Anthony Brown Jr. to Oregon during his senior year at the school. He brought Ward to Miami a few years later after three seasons of mediocre production from Tyler Van Dyke.
