Shams Charania explains how Nick Richards fits with the Suns

As soon as possible The Phoenix Suns traded Josh Okogie for Nick Richards with the Charlotte Hornets, Shams Charania took it to X and explained how he was the new big man of the Phoenix fits into his team.
“The Suns are getting much-needed help at center with Richards, who averaged 11.3 points, 10.2 rebounds and 1.7 blocks in nine starts this season,” the tweet read. “Over the last four seasons, he shot 65 percent from the field, fifth-best in the NBA during that span (min. 800 attempts), according to ESPN research.”
The big man from Charlotte was a key player for his previous team. Although Mark Williams generated the start, Richards stepped up in a big way when his number was called. While the numbers are nice, he brings much-needed physicality and a strong presence on the boards.
It is interesting that the Suns lead the NBA in not very pleasant statistics. According to Stathead, they have three games this season 20 or more offensive rebounds allowed. The last of those games came during Tuesday’s loss to the Atlanta Hawks.

Trading for Richards won’t solve Phoenix’s underlying problems. However, it is a great start. Not to mention, just giving up a second-round pick is key. They didn’t have to spend a first-round pick on a center. Furthermore, it gives Mason Plumlee and Oso Ighodaro help on the interior.
The two filled the role of Jusuf Nurkic nicely, but the team lacks his physicality. After Nurkic was involved in a potential trade for Richardshe stays in phoenix. Still, former big man Charlotte can bring that bully ball to the Valley in an instant. Trade took place during the longest journey of the season.
The Suns next game is on Thursday against the Washington Wizards. It is unclear whether Richards will be ready for that game until he is examined. However, if given the green light, Phoenix will likely use it immediately. Also, he may or may not start. It’s all in the hands of head coach Mike Budenholzer at this point.
