The Clippers could be buyers at the trade deadline, but don’t expect Brandon Ingram

The Detroit Pistons they seemed headed for another losing streak where they missed both the playoffs and the playoffs before a recent hot streak put them back in the mix. Cade Cunningham looks like a superstar and the Pistons are now 21-21 after a terrific January run to get back into the thick of the playoff race in the Eastern Conference.

As a result, the Pistons’ plans for the upcoming Feb. 6 trade deadline may have changed. A month ago, it looked like the Pistons should be sure sellers, but now they are could make an additive move in order to continue the payout according to NBA insider Marc Stein.

“Now the Pistons are considering the concept of becoming a buyer at the trade deadline, according to league sources,” Stein wrote. “However, these seem to be more preliminary and evaluative conversations – how any methodical and pragmatic front office would look at all the avenues the market presents.” The Pistons have also given rival teams the impression that they don’t consider any really massive moves, such as swinging for New Orleans Brandon Ingramwho could use some of Cunningham’s touch.”

The Pistons could still use another scorer in addition to Cunningham, but Brandon Ingram is not a player that would be a good fit beside him. If the Pistons can find someone who is a talented offensive player but also doesn’t need the ball, it could be perfect for the back half of the season.

Cade Cunningham sped up the Pistons timeline

After starting a career defined by injuries and terrible rosters that left the Pistons in the basement of the Eastern Conference, Cade Cunningham has made the leap to superstardom. Cunningham has been excellent in January, leading the Pistons to 10 wins in their last 14 games.

Cunningham has led this team to a current playoff spot at No. 9 in the Eastern Conference standings thanks to his all-around offensive game and ability to lift his teammates. For the season, Cunningham is averaging 24.3 points, 6.5 rebounds and 9.4 assists per game and has made a real push for an All-Star spot and possible All-NBA honors at the end of the year if he can continue.

As a result, the Pistons should now be looking at the trade market with an eye for players who can help them improve in the near future. The Pistons have no reason to go all-in this season, but now they have reason to believe their window to compete in the East will open sooner than they thought. An additional weapon in the lineup could help them make the playoffs this season, where they can gain valuable experience moving forward.
