Mavericks’ honest explanation for costly mistakes in frustrating loss to Hornets

CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte Hornets won Dallas Mavericks by a final score of 110-105 on Monday. It was a frustrating loss for the Mavs, who dropped to 23-20 with the loss. “For us, we’ve had some changes here lately,” Kidd he told reporters after the game. “Some of the inbound passes were tough, so we have to go back and work on that… They (Hornets defense) definitely put pressure on you. So it’s just a matter of going back and understanding what needs to be done at different times and we’ll be better at it.”

Kyrie Irving scored 33 points and leads the Mavericks. Daniel Gafford enjoyed a big game, finishing with a career-high 31 points to go along with 15 rebounds, seven blocks, three assists and one steal. Gafford has played well in recent actionbut the Mavs still suffered a heavy loss on Monday.

Still, the Mavs understand that taking care of the basketball is something they need to do regardless of injuries.

“It was just a couple of mental mistakes we had,” Gafford said of the Mavericks’ losses. “They used that to their advantage, just made sure they scored at the other end in transition.” They’re one of, I’d say, the best transition teams in the league, especially when they get guys to turn the ball over. So that was one of the things we talked about in our game plan.”

The Mavericks will try to get back into the win column at home on Wednesday against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
