Why Heat star Tyler Hero will miss the first game of the season against the Blazers

The Miami Heat will not have their best player for Tuesday’s matchup with the Portland Trail Blazers.

Guard Tyler Herro will missed his first game season due to groin pain.

“Tyler Hero says he’s out tonight.”

Herro is enjoying a breakout campaign for the Heat, who were surrounded by drama because of the Jimmy Butler trade fiasco. The Kentucky product took full advantage of his role, averaging 24 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists while shooting 40 percent from three.

The 24-year-old enjoyed his birthday on Monday and has played in all 41 games so far for the Heat, who are currently 21-20, good for eighth in the Eastern Conference. Butler just returned to action despite the organization still wanting to trade him before the Feb. 6 deadline.

Herro was seen having fun with Jimmy before their first game when their names were announced, but Butler wasn’t really enjoying it. With Hero here, Kel’el Ware gets his first NBA start. Terry Rozier, Duncan Robinson, Bam Adebayo and Butler will round out the first unit.

Ware was a solid piece off the bench in his rookie campaign, averaging 7.3 points and 4.0 rebounds a night. He gave the Heat some nice production on their second unit.

The Heat are just 4-6 in their last 10 games, but had a big win over Victor Vembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday. After playing in Portland, Erik Spoelstra’s team goes on the road for matches with the Milwaukee Bucks and the Brooklyn Nets.

With Herro sidelined here, Butler will have to join Bam. The Heat need to stay focused and ignore outside noise, but it looks like a Butler deal could come sooner rather than later. The Phoenix Suns received three first round picks from the Utah Jazz and that is supposedly an important step towards Jimmy being traded.
