Keke Palmer, Shadi McCoy and Demand for Good ‘Journalism’

Today, Keke Palmer and Shady McCoy found in the center Council, current discussions on journalism. They both had recent media moments who left many spectators dissatisfied. Interview of Keka Palmera with Olandria Carthen and Chelley Bisainthe about your love island Experience, stuck immediately after its time in the villa, drew criticism.
Meanwhile, Shadi McCoi, fresh than cancellation of his FS1 show ObjectHe appeared as a host and interviewer for Meac Media Dai, containing his friends and former eagles, Dezertec Jackson and Michael Vicka, and now HBCu coaches. For great majority of the Internet, Palmer and MCCOI faced constant criticism for their handling these specific media interviews.
Much Love island Fans believed that Keka Palmer did not deeply ban enough in Chelley and the time of Olandia in Villa or specific events during the show. At the same time, Shadi McCoi made several mistakes during the Hosting ESPN + broadcasting of the MEAC Media. He made a grave mistake in the Hvard University contract at Hampton University when he talked to the Bison Scott football coach. Although discussable if it was a joke, many people considered that his total interview development was not in line, even with some of the other coaches.
Due to these incidents, I saw a wide discussion on social media today about the request for “good journalism”. People express desire for individuals with strong journalistic skills that they have the opportunities to talk to the data of high profiles, known and dignitaries. There is also a noticeable appreciation of the development of young journalists and media personalities to receive during their colleges, especially through mass communications or media studies.
As media studies, they graduated from Fort Valley State University, I appreciate people who emphasize the value of a mass communication diploma. It often feels like people believe that there is no need to study media or communications, because you can simply pick up the phone, wider message and can go virus, even earning money. Many assume that they already articulate enough, they speak enough and are witty and fast on their feet to be on TV, appear on TV or run the Youtube channel or podcast. Consequently, they often devalue our Major. They claim that it is easy, it is not difficult, it is not as difficult as a doctor or going to legal school, as if these professions are directly comparable, and as to travel to mass communications is not challenging in line with their own right.
And this seems to be known by celebrities that achieve glory and success in other fields, in media spaces, they receive numerous opportunities in media premises that clinically and classically trained journalists and media personalities can no longer be obtained. But what is interesting on public conversation on the situation and need for journalism, especially in relation to the surveys of celebrities and personality, is what people really say when they ask, “Where is good journalism?” or “We want good journalism.”
What often articulates is the desire that the surveyors and personality know celebrities are bravely in their questions, to conduct a thorough research and are truly preparing for interviews. Those people mean when they say, “Where are the journalistic skill?” or “Where are people with journalism diplomas?” or “We need real journalists for this interview.”
People don’t want questions and answers on the surface level. They don’t want to see that someone gave a chance that does not fully understand their subject, context or key players in the area they talk about. It means “good journalism” for them. And while this expectation is often fair (shady MCCOI) is often continued to encourage people to overcome the prevailing media data (Keka Palmer).
Every conversation doesn’t have to be the same
Let’s consider the conversation of Keka Palmer. As someone who watched each episode Love island This season and whether several recaves specially covered the trip of Olandia, I watched an interview that did with Chelley and Olandria. I don’t believe she did a bad job by interviewing those two young women. I don’t think people look at him from the right perspective.
First, we know that this interview was pre-recorded and published today. Many developing social media that occurred because the remaining islets left that the villa did not happen until the moment Chelley and Olandia was sitting with Keka Palmer. A lot of people want opponent’s interviews, drama and snake, but sometimes it’s not the purpose of the interview. Often, in fun conversations, the host simply makes the conversation easier and it is at the discretion of the hosts and their desired conversation style.
I say that as someone who spent many moments of my eleven years in the media that leads interviews. Many people who encountered my content told me I was really a good interviewer. For me, what I want to do in my interviews that guests feel comfortable. I often don’t look for controversial or opponent interviews, because I don’t believe my specific journalistic style is used. If you want a solid interview where you descend to the facts and bake someone like they are prosecuted in court, you don’t come to me for that.
I think people have a specific idea of how they want an interview to be: opponent, dramatic, looking for “tea”. But what we learned in the media profession and through its own independent study and enjoyment of the media, is that no conversation has been created equal and every conversation must not be opponent.
That’s why I believe there was nothing wrong with Palmer conversation with Chelley and Olandria. I really don’t know what people expected when they looked at the interview. If you are upset that you did not ask questions that you wanted or didn’t cover the topics you thought you were considered, just say that – it’s completely fine. And yes, Keke Palmer is not a trained journalist. But making it a symbol of the Crusades to promote “Good Journalism” is considered incorrect.
Always prepare media personality
As for Shadi McCoy today, I thought it was a great idea to be part of the Meac Media Day. It had a lot of sense as Michael Vick and Dessen Jackson are now coaches for HBC. This is also built on what I saw from Shadi McCoy when he had his conversation / interview with DESEN DESEN Jackson in January on their co-hosting podcast, Show 25/10. I thought he did well then and asked good questions.
I didn’t expect a lot because I know Shadi McCoi was probably not up to date with the Screen of the HBCU scene 2024. Years. While he could investigate, I knew it wouldn’t go depth in his conversations like Tiffany Green or Jay Walker, who not only cover both games and sports and slow. However, what I wanted from MCCOI more than anything was a little more readiness, a little more has mastered at least statistics.
Perhaps the opportunity before ESPN + broadcasts started talking to several cameras-free coaches, to introduce yourself a little more about them, and then make that in four to five minutes in the ultimately did this eventually work during the broadcast. It really really looked like he was an overture really preparing and did a deep research on coaches with which he spoke, in the success of teams or other cases and things that happened during the season.
And while it is something someone who constantly covers sports, anyone can explore research. The research is a crown printer of journalism. Because through that research, you start formulating curious, informed questions. I think that many people want in these situations. And that is not unreasonable. Outside his conversations with Jackson and Vick, he appeared as if McCoy was not up to the task.
Even if McCoi is “Hampton” with Larry Scott was a joke and she wasn’t serious, because he knew he was talking to Howard’s coach, he didn’t seem to be adequately prepared for that event. It’s okay to say that. It’s ok at least to expect to know him at least who he talked. Yes, more attention on HBCU Athletics is amazing and it should be what we will be credited. But put a job in learning what HSA sports offer.
We require it from journalists and personalities in other sports, especially in the NBA and NFL. It is not irrational or unavailable requested for events such as a media day.
No, you don’t have to have a mass communication degree, but …
As someone with mass communication programs that works full-time in digital media, I don’t have to have a mass communication degree to get options like Keka Palmer or Shadi McCoy. Loren Loros is the perfect example of someone who went to HBCU (Public University of Delaware), did not have mass communications and is incredibly good in his profession.
She received media training and sharpened their mass communication skills to work when she worked in TMZ. And there are plenty of other people who are good surveyed and good at facilitating conversations that or did not go to college or did not study mass communications. But in the end, what many of these successful individuals in the media that did not have massive in mass communications is strictly preparing interviews. This separates them when it comes to their media tasks, monologues or segments, they work rigorous preparations for that interview. And from that, that’s what is missing.
So, for those who do not fully understand what people say when they ask someone with media or interviews or media opportunities, in these specific moments and situations like those who involve shady McCoy and Keke Palmer. And if people have a wider understanding of this fact, I sincerely believe that we could have more informed talks about the state of the media and where we go.
