Basketball: FIBA ​​suspends BBF and British Male Team forbidden from the international competition


The World Basketball Organization of FIBA ​​suspended the British basketball federation (BBF) and forbade the men’s team from the international competition due to management issues.

FIBA maskforce was founded in August to investigate the “regulatory mismatch” in British basketball.

In April, BBF has awarded a 15-year permit to run a new professional male competition – United Kingdom Basketball League – to GBB League Ltd (GBBL).

BBF said GBBL, a consortium led by the US Businessman Marshall Glyckman, would provide funding from £ 15 million in the first two years.

However, existing clubs in basketball in the Super League (SLB) claimed that the tender process leading the ruling body was “illegal and unfair” and refused to join the new league.

The clubs launched legal actions against the BBF at High Court, while Minister of Sports Step Stephanie Pauzock, as reportedly asked the government body to elite financial, sports sports, in order to investigate the alternate.

In the Fiba’s statement, she said that it ended the “comprehensive overview of the situation, including interviews and meetings with basketball actors”.

Under suspension conditions, BBF will not be allowed licensed or recognized national male competitions or fields for men at the national team in FIBA ​​higher competitions.

Vassforce will now “directly engage with basketball actors and the UK government to investigate and propose a temporary operating framework for the highest national competition in the head”.

The statement was added: “These measures aim to recover regulatory integrity and promoting sustainable management of male basketballs in the UK.”

On Sunday, the BBF announced the resignation of Chris Grant after three years due to “personal reasons”.

The BBC Sport contacted BBF for comment.
