Boston gets encouraging signing of Jaylen Brown amid injury scare

Wednesday night was quite eventful for Boston Celtics. Head coach Joe Mazzulla got into it with Immanuel Quicklie during their preseason scrimmage against the Toronto Raptors, doc Xavier Tillman Sr. made the floating board it gave the Celtics a 110-108 win. What should not be lost in the shuffle is the fact that Jailen Brownnumber seven of the Celtics, had scored just seven points in seven minutes of play earlier out with a hamstring injury.

The hamstring injury suffered by Brown has been described as a “tightness” and the nature of this type of soft tissue injury makes it a bit of a concern, especially with the pressure to open at night. Still, the Celtics head coach brushed off any concerns about Brown’s well-being, with Macula revealing that the former NBA Finals MVP it should be fine from here onwards.

“He’s going to be fine. I talked to him afterward, he said he’s going to be fine,” Mazzulla said, per Noah Dalzell of SB Nation.

With just under five minutes left in the first quarter, Brown took the ball down the court for the Celtics. As he held the rock, he felt his left hamstring tighten, forcing him to pass the ball to Anferna Simmons who proceeded to turn the ball over. When the Raptors came out in transition, Brown was apparently he can’t go onas he grabbed his left hamstring and motioned to the bench to exit the game.

The good news is that this is just preseason basketball, so the games don’t count toward a team’s win-loss record yet. This was also the Celtics’ final game of the exhibition season, so Brown should have plenty of rest before they open the season next Wednesday against the Philadelphia 76ers at home.

Brown will be tasked with leading the team’s offense for the first time in his career, as the Celtics will rely on him to be their number one option with superstar Jayson Tatum still recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon.

Brown has been criticized for years for his lack of off-hand, and his playmaking needs a lot of work as well. Regardless, the Celtics could provide an opportunity for Brown to expand his game, as he will need to step up if Boston is to remain a playoff team in a weaker Eastern Conference.
