Not only NBA players are exported to Europe, because there are also managers. Proof with Thomas Balcetiseven if it’s for the latter, it’s more of a homecoming. Lithuanian, this former playmaker joins Žalgiris Kaunas as “Head of Innovation”, where he will work with the club partner’s advanced statistics experts, Tessonetin order to continue the development of the new player analysis tool.
“I am very happy. This is an extremely positive new step in my career”, he stated. “I spent 12 years with the Nuggets, and that’s quite a long time. In recent years, even though the job was great, I started to feel a bit routine; every season the job was practically the same. So, when I got the call from Thomas Okmanas, I didn’t hesitate for a second — joining organizations at the level of Tessonet or Zalgiris is a dream for many people.
Balcetis joined the Denver Nuggets in 2013 under GM Tim Connelly, now with the Wolves, as head of analytics. He was then promoted to assistant GM, and was on staff in 2023. Remained free last June, didn’t survive last spring’s big washout with the firings of coach Mike Malone and GM Calvin Booth.
