The player is being used by Deason Daniels as a reference point for a potential contract extension

on Wednesday, Atlanta Hawks the fans collectively exhaled when Tree Young’s cryptic post on social media it turned out to be a commercial for tea. However, there are still some questions surrounding Young’s the future in Atlanta given his current contract situation, and he’s not the only player Atlanta fans would like to see signed to an extension.

Recently, ESPN’s Bobby Marks and Tim Bontemps broke down what the Hawks are guarding and the reigning MVP Dyson Daniels will ask at his next job.

“His agent, Daniel Moldovan, is using the five-year, $150 million extension Jalen Suggs signed last year as a comparison for Daniels, while also weighing Tree Young’s uncertain future in Atlanta,” Marks and Bontemps reported.

Last year, the Hawks acquired Daniels in a deal that sent Dejounte Murray back to New Orleans. The Hawks ended up emerging as clear winners in that trade, with Daniels blossoming into arguably the best perimeter defender in the NBA, earning first-team all-defensive honors in the process, while also showing an expanded offensive game that no doubt benefited from playing alongside a talent like Young.

The contract talks between Young and Daniels come as the Hawks look forward to their most anticipated season in years, having added significant talent to the roster this offseason in Kristaps Porzingis, Nikhil Alexander-Walker, Luke Kennard and rookie Asa Newell.

Hopefully these players, combined with projected improvements from Daniels, Jaylen Johnson and Zachary Rizacher, can propel the Hawks into the upper echelon of the Eastern Conference, especially given the high-profile injuries the conference is currently dealing with.

Of course, other current NBA rules see teams penalized for building good rosters, so if the Hawks’ vision comes to fruition, they’ll likely end up having to part with at least one of those key pieces.

For now, however, Hawks fans will be looking forward to a season where they will hope to finally break out of the play-by-play carousel.
