Jeremy Sochan will miss the season opener with a wrist injury

The The San Antonio Spurs are ready to play Dallas Mavericks in the season opener on October 22nd. However, it sounds like the team will be without the fourth-year forward Jeremy Sochan.

Reports indicate that Socan, who is 22 years old, is turned off for the regular season opener against the Mavericks due to a wrist injury, per Jared Weiss of the Athletics. Socan sprained his left wrist during Spurs’ last practice. The good news is that it is not considered a long-term injury.

“Jeremy Sochan sprained his left ankle in practice today and is expected to miss opening night, according to the Spurs. He returned to 5-on-5 yesterday and suffered the injury. He will be day-to-day for the season.”

With Socan out of the lineup to start the season, the Spurs will likely lean on Harrison Barnes, while guys like Julian Champagne could get extra minutes. It’s possible that Keldon Johnson plays both small and power forward to compensate due to the absence of Jeremy Sochan.

When he finally returns to action, Socan is in line to be Spurs’ sixth man this season. It’s a role he played well last year, as he averaged 25.3 minutes per game. In the 54 games he played, Socan averaged 11.4 points, 6.5 rebounds (a career high) and 2.4 assists per game, while shooting 53.5% from the field (a career high) and shooting 30.8% from the three-point line.

Look for the Spurs to provide more updates on Jeremy Sochan’s wrist injury after the season opener against the Mavericks. Depending on the extent of the sprain, Socan could be out for one to 12 weeks. However, based on reports, it doesn’t sound like the club believe Socan’s sprained wrist is serious.
