Houston signs 2 players before regular season

The Houston Rockets and the Oklahoma City Thunder will begin the NBA regular season on Tuesday night. Unfortunately, both teams are already dealing with injuries before the 82-game slate begins. Rockets guard Fred VanVleet will miss the entire season with a torn ACL. To fill the void left by the former champion, Houston signed Caleb McConnell and Daishen Nix.
Both Nix and McConnell are young guards who will struggle to earn time in an Ime Udoka rotation that is short on cap space. However, their arrival gives Houston depth behind Reed Shepard and Amen Thompson in the backcourt. The Rockets’ style of play is most effective with a deep bench, so Nix and McConnell should get a chance to prove themselves.
According to Spotrac contributor Keith Smith, the Rockets brought both players with less than a week.
“The Houston Rockets announced the signings of Caleb McConnell and Daishon Nix,” Smith said.
Houston’s season opener may be on the road, but Rockets fans everywhere will be eagerly watching the game. Oklahoma City will be without Jaylen Williams due to injurysetting the table for Kevin Durant’s electric debut. Houston pulled off one of the biggest trades of the offseason, adding a former NBA MVP to a young, talented roster.
VanVleet’s absence will hurt the Rockets offense all season long. However, Nix and McConnell can give Udoka energy off the bench to help the team make up for what it lacks on that part of the floor. Houston is a dark contender in the Western Conference, and the table is set for the team to have success in 2025-26.
With the addition of McConnell and Nix, the Rockets’ roster is complete. The only question now is how far Durant can take the team in the playoffs as they seek another title.
