While waiting for LeBron James, Gabe Vincent is the Lakers’ fifth starter

Gabe VincentJJ Redick had four starters in mind after LeBron James’ absence: Luka Doncic, Austin Reeves, Rui Hachimura etc Deandre Ayton. It remains to be seen who will complete the Lakers’ starting lineup on Tuesday against the Warriors.

The answer is: it will be Gabe Vincent. The former Heat player impressed in the preseason with his outside skills (6/11 on 3-pointers vs. Dallas, 4/5 vs. Sacramento), enough to convince his coach that he’s the ideal man to start the season with the Purple & Gold. While waiting for the return of the “King”, obviously.

“It brings shooting around Luke and DA (Deandre Ayton), and Gabe (Vincent) is another playmaker, another tough defender.”JJ Redick explained. “He fits right in with all of that.”

The California coach, however, was quick to clarify that Gabe Vincent will start in the season opener against Golden State, but that nothing has been decided about the future. Facing Stephen Curry, Vincent’s ability to pressure the ball carrier will be valuable, but the selection could change depending on the opponent.

A choice that in any case pleases Luka Dončić.

“I always loved playing with Gabe” so confirms the new head of the franchise with 18 titles. “His shooting is going to help us a lot. And then, you know, we have a real connection on the court.”
