LA waives 4 players ahead of regular season

With the start of the 2025-26 NBA season on Tuesday, many teams are in the process of trimming their training camp rosters to get the maximum of 15 standard roster spots and three contract spots for two spots. Some of the roster cuts were a little surprisingwhile others, such as Los Angeles Lakers‘ cuts were always expected as the season approached.
The Lakers made the announcement on Saturday they made four RJ Davis, Anton Watson, Augustas Marciulionis and Nate Williams are down, according to ClutchPoints NBA insider Brett Siegel. With the cuts, the Lakers’ roster now stands at 14 standard contracts and three two-way contracts. There’s a good chance each of the players he waives ends up with the Lakers’ G League affiliate in the South Bay.
Davis and Marchionis would be NBA rookies, while Watson spent his rookie season between the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks last year, and Williams played three years, one with the Portland Trail Blazers and two with the Houston Rockets.
The Lakers wrapped up their preseason schedule on Friday with a 117-116 loss to the Sacramento Kings. They will open the regular season against the Golden State Warriors at home on October 21st. The Lakers will be without LeBron James who has a nerve injury. They will await word on the backup big man Jackson Hayes who suffered a wrist injury against the Kings.
While Lakers head coach JJ Redick was tight-lipped about what his opening lineup might look like, he talked about the benefits of adding Gabe Vincent to the starting lineup alongside Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves, DeAndre Ayton and Rui Hachimura.
“In that lineup, there’s a lot of shooting around Luke and DA (Deandre Ayton), and Gabe is another ball-handler, another solid defender,” Redick said. “I think he’s a good fit, but you have to look at every match we play against and you have to make a decision.”
