Extended from Houston, Kevin Durant breaks the record for NBA wins
Under contract until summer 2026. Kevin Durant decided to stay a little longer in Houston. ESPN announces that the 37-year-old winger just signed a two-year, $90 million extension. A colossal sum… but below what he could have asked for.
Eligible for a $120 million contract over two seasons, the two-time NBA champion accepted a $30 million discount. A strategic choice as much as a collective one, as it will allow the Rockets to maintain flexibility in the coming months. Especially extend Tara Easonand why not, strengthen the workforce in the summer of 2026.
With a “player option” in the second year, Kevin Durant still retains maximum control over his future. He will really be able to test the market in 2027 if he wants to, as he approaches his 39th birthday.
If he completes this new contract, Kevin Durant will enter NBA history from a different angle: financial. With a total of $598.2 million in accumulated salary since his 2007 draft, he would become the highest-paid player in history, ahead of LeBron James ($583.9 million at the end of the season).
A symbolic record… but temporary? “The King” could return to the advantage with his next signing, one who has not yet formalized his future beyond next summer.
