Dillon “crazy” Brooks bloodied in training
“Coach, tell them how much we train. I tore my head, tell them how much we defend!”
The stage is set. An open eyebrow arch after an elbow received during training, Dillon Brooks did not fail to question his new coach Jordan Ott in front of the press.
True to his character, the new Suns winger wanted to make an impression. And remember that defensive intensity is not an abstract concept for him, but a course of action. Even if it sometimes means doing a little too much…
“He caught a nudge. It was an accident. It happened at the end of the session, he opened the bow, I think.”, Jordan Ott confirmed. “I’m sure he’ll exaggerate the number of stitches. We’ll all find out eventually. He was defending himself by being a little too close, holding on . . .”
Lead by example…
A simple fact of the game? Before a new episode in the personal legend of Dillon Brooks, the eternal provocateur, skilled in defensive combat. His teammate Collin Gillespie he quickly realized who he was dealing with.
“He’s crazy”the leader summarized. “He’s the kind of player you hate to play against but love to have around. If you don’t know him, you think he’s crazy, but off the court he’s a great guy. On the floor, it’s like a switch is flipped. He becomes someone else.”
But this “someone else” does not appear by chance. Dillon Brooks plays this role to the fullest to drag the team with him into a dynamic of intensity and aggression. Assumed a leadership role, even when provocative. He also nicknamed Colin Gillespie “Villain Junior”, in line with his own nickname “Villain”.
“He’s tough, physical, doesn’t do lace”added Colin Gillespie. “He doesn’t let that happen. He brings it to the rest of the team, he sets the tone, he brings the energy. I think when the other players see that, they feed off that energy.”
There’s no doubt: Dillon Brooks will be there for Wednesday’s big opener against the Kings.
