Why Erik Spoelstra values his relationship with Bama Adebayo
As it is The Miami Heat went winless in the preseasonthe team is focusing on the regular season, once again led by the head coach Erik Spoelstra and with a star Bam Adebayo. While it is Spoelstra and Adebayo set the standard for the Heatthe two enter their ninth season together as the head coach talks about how special their relationship has been.
Since being drafted with the 14th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, Adebayo has become a cornerstone of Miami, aided by his Spoelstra-led development, appearing in two NBA Finals. The long-time selector spoke about how he ‘guards’ his relationship with Adebayo, who became close, even comparing him to the legends of the team Dwiane Wade and Udonis Haslemaccording to The Miami Herald.
“That’s the beauty of timing,” Spoelstra said. “But unfortunately, we don’t have enough of that in this business. There are so many fluctuations and there are so many changes that you develop new relationships year after year. But when you have the opportunity to coach someone for many years, you get to know each other on a much deeper level. And I appreciate that.”
“It’s similar to how I feel coaching Dwayne and UD all those years,” Spoelstra continued. “Looking back on it, you’re just so grateful for all the different chapters because you’re experiencing everything. You’re experiencing the good, you’re experiencing the friction, you’re experiencing the friendship, the experiences, the shared memories. And I just appreciate that with Bama.”
Heat, Erik Spoelstra, Bam Adebayo’s relationship grew with the Olympics

With Heat’s Spoelstra is America’s new basketball coachhe and Adebayo could make more memories if the big man is on the team, as he was when the team won two gold medals. In fact, Spoelstra was Steve Kerr’s assistant in Paris, France, at the last Olympics, sharing what was memorable with each other.
“It’s definitely grown, probably from the U.S. experience, because we’ve all been able to see each other in a different way and spend a lot of time overseas in what I call the in-between moments,” Spoelstra said. “To eat together, drink coffee together, be on the bus together, hang out after practice, and I’m not the head coach. I’m an assistant coach, and then sometimes I’m just a friend to each other. I love that. I wish we had more opportunities like that in this business, but it’s just not like that. And that’s why I’m really grateful for that.”
Either way, the focus is on Spoelstra and Adebayo winning a championship together for the first time with the season opener on Oct. 22 against the Orlando Magic.
