Fans react to Jonathan Cumminga’s stellar performance against the Lakers

The Golden State Warriorsafter a summer filled with contentious negotiations between them and Jonathan Cummingait seems to put it all in the rear view mirror. Head Coach Steve Kerr apparently he trusts Kuminga moreat least for the start of the season, if his decision to start the 23-year-old in the season opener against the Los Angeles Lakers is any indication.

Kuminga seems to have more pep in his step because he wants to fill a role for this Warriors team that has championship ambitions. He clearly embraced his role with the Dubs and lived up to it, contributing 17 points, nine rebounds and six assists while shooting 6-11 from the field and 4-6 from deep in an impressive all-around effort that showed signs of a jump from the fifth-year forward.

It’s the three-point shot and better passing of the basketball that should catch everyone’s eye; he’s only dished six or more assists eight times and made just four or more 3-pointers in a total of seven games so far in his career. It’s only one game and it’s early days of the season, but it sure looks like the Warriors forward is fitting into the team’s system better by the day — with fans responding on social media.

“kuminga absolutely changed that game in the 3rd quarter. If he does that consistently it’s going to be a problem,” @irlandaaas_ wrote.

“Honestly, I feel like Kuminga could finally make that jump this year. He could be the most important part of the dub this season,” @DanielP_49 he added.

“It’s only the first game, but if they figure out a way to play Kuminga alongside Jimmy, things are going to get scary,” @_Cvizza further.

“Amazing game by Kuminga btw bought with 100% defensive effort, moved the ball great, took good shots. Luka had 43 but Kuminga literally couldn’t touch him. Keep it up,” @curribuuburner expressed.

Stephen Curry didn’t even have to do much in the Warriors’ win, which is a far cry from where the Dubs needed to be to start last season when it seemed like their offense couldn’t go anywhere if he wasn’t the one touching the ball.

Curry still finished with 23 points and drilled a dagger triple around the hash mark to seal the victory for the Warriors. But Kuminga, Buddy Hield (17 points off the bench) and Jimmy Butler (31 points on a gazillion free throws) have done the job for the Dubs, who are off to a 1-0 start to their season.
