Stephen Curry credits “organized chaos” with dooming the Lakers

Record victory no. 1 for Golden State Warriors as they defeated the Los Angeles Lakers, 119-109, at Cripto.com Arena on Tuesday in their season opener.

It was a close affair between the division rivals, but the Warriors did enough in the fourth quarter to hold off the Lakers, who played without LeBron James due to a sciatica injury.

A trio of Golden State stars delivered. Jimmy Butler had 31 points, five rebounds and four assists Stephen Curry scored 23 points, four assists and three steals. Draymond Green had eight points, seven rebounds, nine assists, one steal and two blocks.

Curry admitted their offense “stagnant” in the second quarter, but they regrouped at halftime and regained control of the competition.

“Our organized chaos took over in those first four minutes (of the second half) – easy layups, easy catch-and-shoot threes right off the ball. Warriors basketball took over,” the two-time MVP said in a postgame interview.

The Warriors, who led by as many as 17 points, made 17 three-pointers at an impressive 42.5 percent. They also had 29 assists.

The 37-year-old Curry was playing in the opener of his 17th season, recovering from a hamstring injury suffered in last season’s playoffs. He emphasized that he does not take it for granted and considers it a “blessing”.

“I just love to play. I love the teammates I have and the opportunity to keep chasing, hopefully another title, but also great basketball in the process. It brings out the best in you,” Curry added.

The Warriors survived the Lakers despite Luka Doncic’s near triple-double of 43 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists.

Al Horford had five points and five rebounds off the bench in his Golden State debut.
