Kevin Durant feels responsible for this first defeat
For this first official outing with the Rockets, Kevin Durant had a complicated ending to the game. Nine seconds into regulation time, the 2014 MVP was fouled. Luguentz there and is at the free throw line to try and give Houston a three-point lead.
The new Rockets wing succeeds in just one of his two attempts. Direct consequence: right behind, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander he scored a shot from the middle that sent the match into overtime.
In the first overtime, KD was able to cost Houston the game for the first time as he took the rebound after a missed shot by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and called a timeout until the Rockets had no more! A mistake that is usually penalized with a technical foul and therefore a free throw for OKC but the judges saw nothing.
Decisive mistake
Then the second overtime opens, during which Kevin Durant makes another mistake. With two seconds left, he bit Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s dummy and committed his sixth foul of the night, synonymous with the ejection. Above all, he sends the reigning MVP shooting two free throws. And unlike KD a few minutes earlier, SGA didn’t flinch and let their team win 125-124.
“I missed a free throw and made a mistake at the end of the match. I think these two actions are the reason for our defeat” analyzed by Kevin Durant. “I have to be more disciplined and focused when we have a chance to defend to kill the game.”
Despite this complicated ending to the matchup and a generally rather discreet second half, Kevin Durant finished this first outing in Houston colors with 23 points on 9/16 shooting, 9 rebounds and 3 assists in 47 minutes of play, the second-highest total for his team just behind almost 49 minutes of play.Alperen Sengun
The Turk finished with 39 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists, but also hit a career-high five 3-pointers and a special dunk in the second overtime.
“I don’t expect to make all the important shots at the end of the match” underscores Kevin Durant. “But I think my presence on the court can help calm everybody down. Sometimes it’s going to be my night in the fourth quarter, sometimes it’s going to be Alperen’s (Sengun) night. So we have to prepare for that.”
