Victor Wembanyama stars as Spurs dominate Mavericks in NBA opener
Victor Wembanyama scored 40 points as the San Antonio Spurs opened the season with a convincing 125-92 victory over the Dallas Mavericks.
The Frenchman, making his first regular season appearance since then underwent shoulder surgery for deep vein thrombosis in February recorded the fifth 40-point game of his career.
The 21-year-old’s performance overshadowed Cooper Flagg’s nervous start to his NBA debut.
The 18-year-old, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 draft, became the second-youngest starter in NBA history behind LeBron James in his Mavs debut.
But the teenager struggled to establish himself, not scoring until the second half and finishing with 10 points.
Vembanjama, on the other hand, had 21 points by halftime and showed some rust after an eight-month layoff.
