The The San Antonio Spurs cruised to a dominant 125-92 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on opening day at the American Airlines Center in Dallas. In what was a a historic, record-breaking night for Victor Vembanyamawho played his first official game since February, scored 40 points and had 15 rebounds.

On the way to that static line, there was a dominant dunk like no other Anthony Daviswho finished with 22 points and 13 rebounds on 7-22 shooting. According to footage posted by Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints on X, Vemba he initially grabbed a defensive rebound after a failed Mavericks punt.

He then drove himself to the three point line where he was greeted by a double team led by AD. However, all it took for the 7-foot-4 forward was a slight movement, after which he slipped past Davis and proceeded to dunk with his left hand.

“This is against Anthony Davis, a versatile all-around player and one of the best frontcourt defenders in the league. Wemby makes him look like some random guy in the park. Third-year Wemby is different,” Siegel wrote on X, clearly impressed with the ease with which Wemby completed dunks.

Vembanyama poured in 21 points by halftime, set a Spurs record for points in a season opener and went on a 13-0 run late in the second quarter. The game also saw the official debut of Cooper Flagg, along with No. 2 overall pick Dylan Harper.

Flagg finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds, but didn’t score until the first possession of the second half. Harper, on the other hand, came off the Spurs bench in the first quarter and sparked a surge that put San Antonio in control, finishing with 15 points.

Regardless, the night largely belonged to Wembanyama, who led Spurs to three dominant quarters that helped them to a 32-point victory. Stephon Castle added 22 points, seven rebounds and six assists and was San Antonio’s second leading scorer.
