Patrick Beverley is reigniting the Tree Young feud after a disastrous season opener in Atlanta
Wednesday night, The Atlanta Hawks have started their 2025-26 NBA season with a blip as they flopped at home by the Toronto Raptors. Almost nothing went right for the Hawks, who surrendered to the Raptors’ relentless offense and shot poorly from the field throughout the evening.
As has become a theme throughout his career, the point guard Trae Young had a rough start to the season, shooting just 5-14 from the field and dishing out just five assists.
One person who was enjoying a rough performance is a former NBA player Patrick Beverleycurrently out of the league, who feuded with Young this offseason for reasons unknown and took to X, formerly Twitter, to celebrate Atlanta’s loss on Wednesday.
@TheTraeYoung and the @ATLHawks was talking all that, and trolling only to lose 20 to the Raptors talking about the playoffs,” Beverley wrote.
Beverley won’t get a chance to back up his on-court trash talk against Young, as he’s not currently on an NBA roster, but he’s certainly still trying to keep the anti-Young agenda moving as the season goes on.
Tough start for the Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks were considered by many to be one of the winners this offseason after a flurry of moves, including trading for Kristaps Porzingis and signing Nikhil Alexander-Walker and Luke Kennard. Unfortunately, almost everyone on the roster not named Jaylen Johnson laid an egg during Wednesday’s game against a long and athletic Toronto team that has given the Hawks some trouble for years.
Making matters even more embarrassing for Atlanta was that the Raptors made just six three-point field goals, well below the average in today’s NBA, and still managed to put 138 points on the board.
Things don’t get any easier from here for the Hawks, who now have upcoming games against the Orlando Magic and the reigning NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder looming on the horizon.
The Hawks and Magic will tip-off Friday night at 7:00 PM ET from Orlando.
