Why Enes Freedom is calling on Adam Silver to resign

NBA commissioner Adam Silver is currently at Gainbridge Fieldhouse at press time, attending Thursday’s NBA Finals rematch between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Indiana Pacers, but is likely finding it difficult to focus on the action. It shook the league FBI gambling investigation with ties to the mob, which led to Detroit Pistons great and Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups, Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier and former Cleveland Cavaliers player and assistant Damon Jones being arrested along with 31 others.

He speaks his mind again after this gambling bombshell, directly targeting Silver.

Although the 63-year-old commissioner has discussed the possibility of regulating sports betting in the past, the issue is clearly spiraling out of control. Former striker Jontay Porter has been banned for life from the NBA in 2024 and eventually pleaded guilty to wire fraud conspiracy, so Silver and the league were already under the microscope.

These latest allegations, which center around a Hall of Famer, two NBA figures far more famous than Porter and members/associates of the Bonanno, Gambino, Lucchese and Genovese crime families, will bring a torrential downpour of bad optics to Silver’s office. Professional sports’ growing relationship with gambling will be a hot topic this season.

Fans will be especially wary whenever something strange happens or there is an impromptu addition to the injury report. Although currently only three individuals associated with the NBA have been charged in connection with this scandal, the Association has lost significant public trust.
