Katt Williams breaks SGA in NSFV Anthony Edwards ad



Team via u Adidas Basketball has been putting together some of its most creative and viral content in recent memory in support Minnesota Timberwolves‘ franchise player Anthony Edwards. With the release of his debut signature sneaker, the Adidas AE 1, the sneaker brand threw its entire marketing team into making Anthony Edwards the face of its brand. They recently enlisted the help of legendary comedian and actor Katt Williams to throw some jabs at the competition.

Following the release of the hugely successful Adidas AE 1, Adidas put together a few creative ads to promote the sneaker and their latest talent. Powered by “Believe it”. tagline, the commercials even featured actor and rapper Ice-T, reprising his role on Law & Order: SVU Edwards’ viral poster nailed Chet Holmgren.

Now Adidas is back with one of the greatest comedians alive today and once again throwing punches at the competition. This time, however, Anthony Edwards and Adidas are coming after the reigning NBA MVP.

The spot begins with Katt Williams speaking directly to all the haters, a common theme in Adidas AE ads we’ve seen. He continues: “You’re all done. I mean, you saw what happened last season, right? (Edwards) led the league in three-pointers, as a dunker.”

“Now I know what you’re all going to say – there’s a certain two-guard not named Anthony Edwards who’s all the rage right now. I can’t deny it, he’s doing his thing. But he’s lucky his game is as smooth as his little songs because they’re shoes, no thanks. The game left that brand behind for a reason. What else are cigarettes in the room?

Of course, the duo in question is the Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the “shoes” mentioned are SGA’s latest debut SHAI 001 sneaker from Converse. Converse was the NBA’s footwear sponsor during the days of Magic Johnson and Larry Bird before brands like Adidas and Nike took over.

Regardless, both Anthony Edwards and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander are fierce competitors on the court, but it’s fun to see their rivalry go beyond basketball and into the sneaker space. From now on, we must give advantage of Anthony Edwards and Adidasbut it will be interesting to see what marketing strategies Converse will start implementing behind the SGA.
