The Knicks are choking the Celtics

Every time the Knicks beat Boston, it’s a small celebration for New York fans, and this one was no exception to the rule. Buoyed by an outstanding second quarter, the Knicks dominated Celtics still in training, before holding off their comeback at the end of the match. Final score: 105-95. Remember that the Celtics, like the Cavaliers, “swept” the Knicks in the regular season last season.
On the Knicks side, Myles McBride started in the backcourt alongside Jaylen Brunson to back up Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby and Karl-Anthony Towns, and it was Boston who hit from the start with six straight points… Before committing three turnovers in three minutes. The series then continued to follow each other. When New York responded with a 7-0 run, it was only to miss eight shots in a row. As a result, the Celtics responded with an 8-0 run. In short, a very average and disjointed first quarter, and Sam Hauser’s Celtics took advantage of that to take a 30-22 lead.
Tyler Kolek and Jordan Clarkson arrive alongside Bridges, Anunoby and Towns and everything changes! This five reverses the trend with 11-0 seconds. Accurate with the pass and aggressive in the circle, Kolek hurts a lot, and the Knicks continue with 14-0! Result: one-sided second quarter (42-14), comfortable halftime lead (64-44). Another positive point: Josh Hart’s great return, still impressive on the rebound.
The cities were concluded in victory
Returning from the locker room, the Celtics woke up on an 8-0 run, and it was McBride who stopped the bleeding, before Brunson (31 points) and Bridges followed from afar. The Knicks regained control of the game, and the deficit reached 24 points thanks to the great dominance of the offensive rebound.
Early in the 4th quarter, it happened again as the Celtics went on a 5-0 run to get back from a 15-point deficit. The moment was chosen by Karl-Anthony Towns (26 points, 13 rebounds) to establish his dominance under the boards: three offensive rebounds in a row, a foul for two successful shots, then a long shot.
Despite one last burst of pride from a bumbling Derrick White and a stunning Hugo Gonzalez, the Knicks didn’t flinch and won by 10 points (105-95). This is only the Knicks’ second regular season win against the Celtics in two years.
What to remember
– A monumental second quarter. This is the turning point in the match as the Knicks won this 2nd quarter 42-14 and took 20 points at the break. At halftime, New York had already grabbed 12 offensive rebounds and scored 18 points off opponent turnovers. Another stark stat: 16-0 on the counter attack.
– Fear for OG Anunobi. It wasn’t a perfect night for the Knicks as they lost OG Anunoby. The English winger was injured five minutes from time. He entered the bench without being able to put his foot on the ground. The good news is that he did not return to the locker room, but the Knicks did not announce his injury.
