Mike McDaniel’s warning to Tyreek Hill after he quit in Week 18

Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel and general manager Chris Grier addressed the media on Tuesday, providing clarity on the wide reception Tyreek Hill’s recent postgame remarks which hinted at a possible exit from the team. Their comments, reported by NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe, were intended to dispel speculation about Hill’s future with the Dolphins after a disappointing 2024 season.

McDaniel revealed that he had an hour-long meeting with Hill to address his actions during the team Week 18 loss to the New York Jetsduring which Hill made headlines for leaving the field before the end of the game.

“I told him that it was unacceptable for him to leave the game and it will not be tolerated in the future,” McDaniel he said. He noted that Hill accepted responsibility during their conversation. “There’s nothing to fix about the relationship, but we had to clear the air.”

General manager Chris Greer also spoke about the situation, pointing out that Hill never asked for a trade during their talks.

“I had productive conversations with Tyreek that will remain internal,” Grier he stated. “I would say in a frustrating season, he was very emotional in a game where we had a chance to come back from 2-6.”

Hill’s comments after the Jets game, where he said, “I’m opening the door. I’m gone bro,” she fueled speculation about his future in Miami. However, Grier and McDaniel’s remarks suggest a commitment to keeping the relationship moving forward.

The Dolphins finished the season 8-9 and missed the playoffs after going through a challenging year, highlighted by the extended absences of quarterback Tu Tagovailoa. Hill, who posted his lowest receiving total since 2019, has shown visible frustration throughout the season.

As Miami heads into the offseason, Hill’s accountability and the Dolphins’ efforts to address the situation could set the tone for a more cohesive approach in 2025. The assurances from McDaniel and Greer signal the organization remains focused on fostering stability and improvement in the coming year.
