Victor Vembanyama’s unique start to the season

Three matches, three wins… Nets winners Victor Wembanyama’s Spurs got off to the perfect start to the season on Sunday night, and “Wemby” he is absolutely not in “diesel” mode as he is averaging 34.5 points, 13 rebounds and 6 blocks. Never has a player scored more than 100 points and recorded 18 blocks after three regular season games!

During the season, such a streak had already happened, and when blocks were taken into account (1973/74), there were only four who accumulated that many points and blocks in a three-match period. They are Patrick Ewing, Shaquille O’Neal, Hakeem Olajuwonand David Robinson.

Equally impressive is the fact that Wemby lost only two balls after three games, while in the preseason he wasted a lot, and generally has a lot of possession.

Ready for the first back-to-back

“We feel like we belong. It clearly gives a boost” answers the Frenchman about being undefeated since the preseason, before talking about back-to-back games this Monday night. “It’s true that the trip after New Orleans was a little complicated. “Just like in the pre-season, the cheers from the fans are amazing. There is still some coordination between the chants in the room and the rest of the crowd, but I think with time everyone will learn.” he concludes. “I feel like we have a relationship with the fans that benefits everyone. We feed off their energy, and I hope they feed off ours. I hope they enjoy it as much as possible, because we do. It’s really different from playing at home.”
