Stephen A. lights up Sacramento for 50 pieces of Austin Reeves

The The Los Angeles Lakers improved to 2-1 on the season after defeating the Sacramento Kings 127-120 after the historic performance of Austin Reaves. Reaves scored a career-high 51 points on 12-22 shooting and 21-22 at the free throw line and was dominant throughout.

Stephen A. Smithhowever, despite appreciating Reaves’ performance, he gave his all on the Kings for allowing this to happen.

“Second most points in NBA history by an undrafted player. The first was Fred VanVleet who dropped 54 in 2021. Big props to Austin Reaves who played most of last year as the best third option in the NBA, playing behind LeBron James and Luka Doncic,” began Poe Smith praising Reaves on Reaves and his constantly improving video.

He also had high praise for JJ Redick, claiming he “loves those guys.” However, Smith still believes the Kings have themselves to blame.

“Having said all that, what an indictment of the Sacramento Kings. No LeBron, no Luke, and you’re a team with DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine on the same team and you’re outplayed by Austin Reaves? … (He) went out there and blew you all alive. Really? 51?” he concluded.

“Come on guys. I mean, hell, Austin Reaves went out there and ruined all of your live -. Him as the No. 1 option? Arrest you all? That’s all I got to say,” Smith said, and it’s fair to say he wasn’t happy with Sacramento’s defense.

Reaves hit six 3-pointers on the night, including the 500th of his career, and had 15 points in the fourth quarter. The 27-year-old, who went undrafted in 2021, became the second undrafted player since Fred VanVleet to score 50 points, and VanVleet scored 54 for the Toronto Raptors against the Orlando Magic in February 2021.

Los Angeles played without LeBron James and Luka Doncic. Deandre Ayton had 22 points and 15 rebounds, and Rui Hachimura had 18.
