How LaMelo Ball Inspired Miles Bridges By Calling The Game ‘Boom’
It’s not often that an NBA team leads by double digits at halftime and still wins a game by 26 points, but that’s exactly what happened. to the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday night when they improved to 2-1 with a road win against the Washington Wizards. It was another strong effort from point guard LaMelo Ballwho recorded an impressive triple double of 38 points, 13 rebounds and 13 assists in the victory.
After the game, the Hornets’ scorer Miles Bridgeswho scored 22 in the game, talked about how Ball motivated him to play better when the team was behind.
“(Shoot), that was really Melo,” Bridges said, per Roderick Boone of the Charlotte Observer . “Melo came in, cracked me up. I didn’t come out ready to play, so I’m not used to Melo doing that. “He told me, ‘Lock yourself up. Lock it up, play like I usually do. I’m currently playing as (tramp). He boosted it and everyone else appeared. We go like the head of the snake. So if he leads like that, with that kind of passion, people will listen to him.”
Ball has really turned into a much more vocal leader during his time as the Hornets point guard.
An intriguing Hornets team

The Charlotte Hornets have been trapped in NBA purgatory for a decade since their last playoff appearance in 2016, but the team hopes to turn things around this year.
Ball looks to be playing the best basketball of his career to open this season, and the Hornets also have some intriguing young players on the wing, like Brandon Miller, as well as rookie Kon Knuepel, who scored 20 in the win over Washington.
Overall, in a weakened Eastern Conference, it’s not hard to imagine the Hornets staying there and competing for a playoff spot in 2025-26. They will next take the floor on Tuesday night against the Miami Heat.
