Indiana waives James Wiseman, signs Mack McClung to a multi-year NBA contract

Amidst Tyrese Haliburton’s injury list in Game 7 of the NBA Finals until the loss of backup TJ McConnell (left hamstring), Indiana Pacers allegedly gave up James Wiseman and signed Mac McClung on a multi-year contract. Andrew Nembhard suffered a strained left shoulderas the Pacers’ frontcourt has thinned significantly since Halliburton ruptured his Achilles tendon.

The Pacers felt the backcourt concerns warranted cutting Wiseman to add a guard at McClung, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

“Indiana Pacers sign guard Mack McClung to multiyear deal, Wasserman’s Greg Lawrence told ESPN,” Charania reported. “The deal marks McClung’s first full-time NBA contract, after the first three-peat slam dunk champion spent time in camp and two-way contracts through 2021.”

Charania then followed up his report with an update on what the Pacers plan to do with that open roster spot.

“The Pacers plan to waive center James Wiseman to make room for McClung, who will sign a non-guaranteed multi-year contract, sources said,” Charania said. “Indiana is dealing with several key injuries to its guards and wings to start the season.”

McClung, who last played for the Orlando Magic last season, has just six games of NBA experience. He spent most of his four-year career in the G League.

Journeyman Mac McClung made NBA history because of his great dunks on All-Star Saturday night, with hopes of breaking into the association. The three-time slam dunk champion (2023-2025) showcased his astonishing athleticism within a 6-foot-2 frame. However, nailing down an NBA roster has been a struggle over the years, playing for four different members of the G League over the past four seasons, including the Bulls, Lakers, 76ers and Magic.

Now, McClung has been given a chance to play a role with the Pacers as the defending Eastern Conference champions navigate the challenges of the 2025-26 campaign.
