In Boston, Anfernie Simmons is learning to shine differently

If it is Celtics dominated the debates for almost the entire match against the Pelicans, they had to wait until the last quarter to deliver the final blow. Nine minutes from time, duo Sam Hauser โ Anfernie Simmons then makes two 3-point baskets. These two winning shots started a fatal “rush” for the Pelicans: 22-2 that sealed the fate of the match and allowed Boston to confirm its first victory of the season (122-90).
With three 3-pointers in the sequence, Simmons finished his best outing in the Boston paint with 25 points on 9/17 shooting, including 6/13 from distance. “I want to be able to influence the victory of my team, because they won a lot before I got here,” underlines Anfernie Simmons. “So I want to be able to find my place here, be myself and find new ways to help the team win.”
In full transition
Through the first three games of the season, Anfernee Simmons has struggled, especially on 3-pointers as he shot just 29% (5/17). Which means he made more 3-pointers in one night than in his first three outings. Initial awkwardness that can be justified by the fact that the defender finds himself in a situation where he has less ball, and is only the 2nd or even 3rd option in the attack.
Joe Macula admitted in a press conference that his team was in the middle of a transition period where new automatics had to be found. Coming into this summer, Anfernee Simmons must learn to transition from a role where he was the primary ball carrier for his team to a supporting role. The former Blazers point guard even has to learn to come off the bench, while he was a starter in Portland for three years.
“I’m going through a transition period, of course, but I like it,” admits Anferna Simmons. “They ask me different things and every day I try to improve to help the team win. I try to learn from each game to see what I can do better in the next one. In Portland I was able to be a little more patient because I knew I was going to have the ball almost the whole game. It’s different here. You have a lot of good guys who can have the ball and create plays, so it’s up to you to find.”
