Benedikt Maturin, Obi Topin receive worrying information about injuries
on monday, Indiana Pacers fell to 0-3 in the young 2025 NBA season with a narrow road loss against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Pacers have found ways to stay competitive through the first three games of the season, but they are clearly feeling the effects not having Tyrese Haliburton in the current composition.
Making matters worse is the fact that two of Indiana’s key players for this year, Benedict Maturin and Obi Toppinboth have already suffered injuries, and on Tuesday, the team received updates on both players who it was not very encouraging.
“Rick Carlisle says Ben Maturin will be ‘week-to-week.’ He said he’ll have more snaps in India. He said Obi Taupin is out for at least a month,” Dustin Dopirak of the Indianapolis Star reported on X, formerly Twitter.
Maturin was considered by many to be the best player prospect coming into the year, and he got off to a good start in the Pacers’ first game of the year against the Oklahoma City Thunder, but will now have to spend some time on the sidelines with an injury.
Transition year for the Pacers

Any realistic chance the Indiana Pacers had of competing in the 2025-26 season disappeared when Tyrese Halliburton went down with an Achilles injury in Game 7 of the NBA Finals against Oklahoma City. While it’s true that the Pacers were able to win a lot of playoff games last year with Haliburton putting up relatively pedestrian or even downright bad stat lines, he’s still the engine that drives their offense and clearly makes things happen at the end of what was arguably the strongest playoff run of all time before the season.
Still, the Pacers were hoping Halliburton would be the only injury concern they’d face this year, and so far, unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case. The Pacers will next take the court on Wednesday night against the Dallas Mavericks at 8:30 PM ET.
