Bam Adebayo describes how Miami is ‘evolving’ after previous offensive struggles
MIAMI – After the second Offensive explosion of the Miami Heat in the victory over the Charlotte Hornets144-117, some fans might feel the team is unrecognizable compared to the last few seasons. While it is The Heat are still not happy with the new offensesince they want to keep it year round, captain Bam Adebayo talks about drastic changes.
Bam Adebayo on the ‘evolution’ of the NBA

After the last few seasons of ranking near the bottom of the NBA in offensive rating and pace, the first four games of the season showed a huge difference. Miami posted a league-leading 109.13 possessions per 48 minutes while ranking seventh in offensive rating and leading the league in scoring at 131.5 points per game.
Sure, it’s a small sample size, but it’s a huge step in the right direction, with the team focusing on less pick-and-rolls and more continuous action going downhill, taking advantage of fast-break situations and transitioning. The Heat’s 144 points on Tuesday are the fourth-highest in franchise history by a Heat who last Friday’s third-highest 146 against the Memphis Grizzlies.
For Adebayo, the coaching staff and the player understood that the game was changing and to now ‘develop’ with it.
“The game evolves, so you can evolve with the game, realize everybody’s trying to score more points, everybody’s trying to play fast,” Adebayo said after scoring 26 points against the Hornets. “And to be a part of a team with this tempo and this speed, when we get that ball in transition, this is probably my first year where, like, we emphasize playing this fast, and playing the right way, and that’s what I love about it, we share the game, and everyone feels included.”

With the Heat’s early successThe team faced reality after last season and decided to change its offensive philosophy, especially after the Jimmy Butler trade. Adebayo would admit that the last two seasons “have been a struggle” for Miami in an attempt to find a solution to the offense, saying yes they were “in the mud”.
“I mean, the last two years have been a struggle for us, trying to figure out how to run this offense,” Adebayo said. “So I was open to a new offense at this point. But, you know, that’s a big part of being versatile, being able to fit into any offensive scheme, and being able to impact it and be effective.”

Although many players benefited from the new system, e.g Jaime Jaquez Jr., Norman Powelland the second, the head coach Erik Spoelstra would point out how Adebayo was the glue for anyone buying a new system.
“Forget about the offense. It’s just his overall leadership,” Spoelstra said. “You can see every time there’s a break in the action, he brings it all together. That’s leadership, that’s a connection, that’s somebody that really wants to help this group get better and ultimately win. He understands the responsibility. He’s really organically growing into it. It’s really nice to see guys turn to him now, but it’s also his ninth year as a veteran.”
