Cooper Flagg’s one-handed slam sent fans wild

The Dallas Mavericks suffered a hit during the first half of Wednesday’s game against the Indiana Pacers as Anthony Davies left early with a leg injury. Without Davis on the floor, the Mavericks rookie and No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg will have to step up as he did during the first half, rrising high for a dunk.

On the play, Cooper Flagg brought the ball up the court, was carefully guarded by Pacers guard Ben Sheppard, and proceeded to hit him to break free of a dunk, much to the delight of the Mavericks home crowd.

Even before the Mavericks selected Flagg with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, he was garnering plenty of attention during his lone season of college basketball at Duke. He had a slow start to the 2025-26 season, but has since rebounded.

Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd has decided to play Flag out of position at point guard due to injuries to Kyrie Irving and Dante Exum. Flagg has appeared in all four games for the Mavericks so far, logging just over 31 minutes per game. He averaged 13.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.0 steals on 38 percent shooting from the field, 26.7 percent from the three-point line and 100 percent from the free throw line.

The Mavericks started the season 1-3, with their only win coming against the Washington Wizards. With Davis out of the Pacers game early, the Mavericks are without centers and Derek Lively II and Daniel Gafford are out with injuries.
