Anferni Simmons hits the Cavs with a logo dagger

The The Boston Celtics have rebounded from an 0-3 start to the season to win consecutive games. The Celtics last won against the Cleveland Cavaliers, a team that could emerge as a contender in the Eastern Conference. The Celtics won in incredible fashion, and Anfernee Simmons poured salt in the wound for the Cavs when he buried a 3-pointer to give the Celtics a 17-point lead.

Anfernee Simmons’ logo 3-pointer came late in the third quarter and he was eventually able to beat the shot clock. During the Celtics’ win against the Cavs, Simmons finished with 14 points and two assists in just over 26 minutes of action. He shot 4-of-9 from the field and that logo was one of four three-pointers he knocked down in the game (4-of-6). He also shot 2 of 2 from the free throw line.

Simmons was originally acquired by the Celtics in an offseason trade with the Portland Trail Blazers shipping Jrue Holiday to Portland. Simmons developed into a solid NBA player, he just didn’t garner much national attention for playing on a struggling team.

The 24th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, Simmons played the first seven years of his career with the Blazers. Entering Wednesday’s game, Simmons had played in all four of the Celtics’ games up to that point, logging just over 28 minutes per game.

He comes off the bench for the Celtics and is averaging 15.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.3 steals on 46.9 percent shooting from the field, 36.7 percent from the three-point line and 75 percent from the free throw line. His field goal percentage is a career high so far.

Simmons has averaged double figures in scoring over the past four seasons, scoring over 20 points per game in 2022-23 and 2023-24.
