Nikola Topić, suffering from testicular cancer, begins chemotherapy

The Thunder clarified the reasons for the current absence from Nikola Topicits promising Serbian leader was selected at the 12th position in the 2024 Draft. As announced by Oklahoma City GM Sam Presti, the 20-year-old player has been diagnosed with testicular cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment.
“He underwent surgery early in training camp at MD Anderson Hospital in Houston to determine if it was testicular cancer.”explained the manager. “The biopsy results confirmed the diagnosis. Nikola is now being followed by a team of oncologists, both in Oklahoma and in Houston, and they are extremely positive about his recovery.”
Thunder GM wanted to emphasize that testicular cancer is one of the most curable in men and that doctors are very confident in the outcome of treatment.
“Tope is an outstanding young man, incredibly mature, calm and resilient. He has all the weapons necessary to face this ordeal. Our only expectation of him is to focus on his health. He will return to play when he is ready, and he has all our support and love.” continued Sam Presti.
For Nikola Topic, however, there is one more trial to overcome, as he was already unable to play last season after suffering a ruptured cruciate ligament ahead of the 2024 draft.
