Insider claims 8 ways Miami “got it wrong” in the Terry Rozier scandal
The The Miami Heat won off to a hot start to the season, but has been overshadowed by the ongoing scandal including point guard Terry Rozier. Rozier was recently arrested by the FBI for alleged illegal gambling activities related to NBA games, and has since been placed on unpaid leave when the case began.
The Heat were left to absorb the brunt of the fallout from this scandal themselves, and recently Miami beat writer Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. all ways The Heat got the short end of the stick in this saga, which dates back to when they first acquired Rozier from the Charlotte Hornets.
“1). The NBA, in approving the Rozier trade, did not tell the Heat about the ongoing investigation by the feds into Rozier. 2) Charlotte did not tell the Heat. 3) Miami must continue to pay Rozier’s salary (not to Terry, but on an interest-bearing account). 4) The Heat have not yet received relief for capitulating down 13 and proceeded to trade him (13. or 10 tonight),” Jackson reported on X, earlier on Twitter.
But the list didn’t end there.
“5). Per (Brian Windhorst), the Heat cannot use Rozier as salary cap ballast in a trade. 6). The Heat have not returned in the draft (at this time), meaning the next 4 1st rounds are frozen for trade purposes. 7). Rozier’s contract has not been voided by the NBA (unlike Jontai Porter, who was before the tax line was voided by the NBA), meaning the NBA voided the trade tax line,” he added.
He also noted that “Windy said yesterday that he does not expect the NBA to allow the Heat to use Rozier as a salary broker in a trade.
Tough break for the Heat

If the NBA really didn’t tell the Heat about their ongoing investigation into Rozier when they acquired him from the Hornets, then Miami certainly has reason to be upset and demand the return of their first-round pick.
While some of the items on Jackson’s list double down on the same point, meaning there aren’t actually eight different ways the Heat are being wronged, the organization still clearly has some legitimate gripes with the NBA about how the situation was handled.
