Wednesday night, The Minnesota Timberwolves are down to 2-3 with a frustrating home loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. The Timberwolves fell behind by 20 points in the second half before storming back to take a late lead, only to hold off the Lakers Austin Reeves scored game winner on them as time runs out.
Reaves’ play came when he received a screen from a teammate and then moved around Rudy Gobertwho bizarrely positioned himself to the side of Reaves instead of in front of him, then hovered over Donta DiVincenzo.
Users on X, formerly Twitter, were frustrated a former Defensive Player of the Year, to say the least.
“Rudy Gobert is now slow and old and offers flawless offense and average defense, but the smartest GM of all has doubled down on his investment and basically spent every asset imaginable, so it’s now nearly impossible to match Ant with a star,” one fan wrote.
“There are about 20 centers in the league that will give you what 2025 Rudy Gobert gives Wolves rn and it’s a sad sight to see,” added another.
“Idk guys, you can yell at the coach all you want, I don’t care who the coach is if this is what Rudy Gobert Now the team will not be very good,” added another.
A frustrating start for the Timberwolves
The Minnesota Timberwolves entered this season hoping to continue building on two consecutive trips to the Western Conference Finals. Instead, the team has already lost twice to the Lakers, and superstar Anthony Edwards is already sidelined with a hamstring injury that will keep him out for at least another week.
As mentioned earlier, Gobert seems to have lost at least a step, and the team can’t count on Mike Conley much at this stage of his career. Losing Nikhil Alexander-Walker in free agency over the summer didn’t help the cause either.
The Timberwolves will next take the floor on Saturday against the Charlotte Hornets.
