LA makes key contract decision with 2023 1st round pick

Los Angeles The Clippers have a team full of talent after what they were able to do in the offseason. That means at some point there will be players on the outside looking in, and that could be what the future holds for Kobe Brown after his Clippers declined his option for a fourth yearaccording to Michael Scotto of HoopsHipe.

“The Los Angeles Clippers will decline Kobe Brown’s fourth-year, $4.79 million team option for the 2026-27 season, league sources told HoopsHipe. Brown, the 30th pick in the 2023 NBA draft, will become an unrestricted free agent this coming offseason,” Scotto wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Brown has just played 87 games for the Clippers over the past three seasons, as he hasn’t had much of a chance to cement himself on the roster.

For now, there doesn’t seem to be much room for Brown to grow with the Clippers when you look at who they already have at his position. Players like Bradley Beal and James Harden will get a lot of minutessure, but then he’s still behind Kris Dunn, Nicolas Batum, Chris Paul and others if he wants minutes.

At the same time, the Clippers acquired a full veteran rotation, with John Collins the youngest player to receive consistent minutes at 28 years old. That means the only way Brown can see minutes is if there is an injury or someone in foul trouble.

Hopefully, whatever minutes Brown may get, he can make the most of them and show the Clippers that he deserves a new contract with them.

The Clippers are currently 2-2 and are looking to get off to a strong start to the season as they contend in the competitive Western Conference. They have the talent for it, but it will be about whether they can come together as a group and make it click.
