Luka Doncic’s monster game against the Grizzlies has fans

last friday, Los Angeles Lakers won 128-110 over the Minnesota Timberwolves thanks to Luka DončićExit with 49 points. Alas, Doncic was worse for wear and tear after that competition. He suffered injuries to his fingers and leg, due to which the Slovenian star needed some rest. He missed exactly six days, like him in a Lakers jersey on Friday night in the NBA Cup action against the Memphis Grizzlies, and it didn’t look like he skipped a beat in the process.

Doncic had another great performance, dropping 44 points, 12 rebounds and six assists to lead the Lakers to a 117-112 victory over the Grizzlies. No one can ever question the talent that Doncic possesses, but he entered the year so closed considering how much criticism he received towards the end of last season for his lack of defensive effort and alleged weight issues.

In fact, he is the Lakers’ first player in average over 45 points per game through his first three games of a season since Kobe Bryant in 2007, according to Legion Hoops. The Grizzlies’ defense was at Doncic’s mercy all night, as none of Jaylen Wells, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Cedric Coward could slow down the recently injured returner.

After another incredible outing from Doncic, Lakers fans on X celebrated – especially because of the Dallas Mavericks’ slow start to the season and Anthony Davis’ injury problems.

“Luka is averaging a double-double of 40 points and the Mavs are last in offensive rating and would be last in DRTG if we didn’t play the Pacers general who had two healthy players in the rotation,” @Ieeeerrrrobi wrote.

“Every time I watch Luka Doncic play, I’m reminded of how painfully stupid the Mavs were to trade him,” @clarkkindi22 he added.

“Now I see why the Mavs were in shambles after the Luke trade. It hasn’t even been a year and I see greatness,” @serg824_ further.

It wasn’t entirely clear how long Austin Reeves could keep up his insane level of play; Doncic’s return provides insurance for the Lakers in case Reaves’ production falls short of All-NBA levels in the three games the Slovenian star has missed.

Indeed, Reeves slowed down and took Doncic’s place. He scored only 21 points on 5-14 shooting since Doncic had more than twice as many points as him.

Still, as long as they keep winning, the Lakers have to be very happy.
