Austin Reaves ‘vividly remembers’ JJ Redick’s halftime speech against the Grizzlies
Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves he will never forget the coach JJ RedickThe halftime speech that led to a second-half comeback win against Memphis Grizzlies on Friday. Redick entered the visitors’ locker room at halftime, as Reaves recalled a very frustrated head coachaccording to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.
“I remember it very vividly. He started out calm and then he ended up yelling,” Reeves remembers. “But his words were, ‘I’m not going to come here to yell at all of you, but I want to.’ And then he continued not to shout, but it was no ordinary voice. He raised it a little bit.”

The Lakers responded by outscoring the Grizzlies by 12 (34-22) in the third quarter, where Luka Doncic’s 3-pointer erased a 14-point halftime deficit halfway through the frame. Doncic finished with 44 points on 14-of-27 shooting, including six 3-pointers, 12 rebounds and six assists.
Austin Reeves added 21 points, four rebounds and four assists, and Jake LaRavia leads the bench with 13 points, five rebounds and three steals. With the win against the Grizzlies, JJ Redick’s Lakers improved to 4-2.
Luka Doncic made NBA history in the Lakers’ victory against the Grizzlies

The Lakers guard Luka Dončić has three consecutive performances of 40 or more points at the start of his regular season, he joined Hall of Fame center Wilt Chamberlain (1961, 1962), who had done it twice, as the only two NBA players ever to do so. Doncic’s historic start to the regular season, his first since being traded to the Lakers midway through the 2024-25 season.
Doncic joined Chamberlain in the NBA history books as the only other player to set that mark three consecutive 40-point gameswhich was recorded by Keerthika Uthaiakumar.
Despite missing the last three games due to injury, Doncic wasted no time getting back to scoring goals. He dropped 44 points on the Grizzlies, becoming the first Laker since Kobe Bryant to an average of 45 points through its first three games, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.
The Lakers will host the Heat on Sunday.
