DeSean Jackson, Michael Vick draw more than $1 million in HBCU football showdown

High expected football match between Norfolk State Spartans Michael Vick and Delaware State Hornets DeSean Jackson have done more than become a coaching rivalry between two former NFL stars. The match brought significant financial income for both institutions.

The game, which took place at Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Philadelphia Eagles, reportedly drew over 47,000 people and generated more than $1 million in revenue. This information was shared by a Delaware State alumnan.d The Breakfast Club senior producer Lauren Lorosa on Friday morning

“I talked to the president, Tony Allen, who’s the president of Del State, and he said, and we talked about it this morning, that the total attendance ended up being 47,266 people on tickets sold and they made north of a million dollars last night, but they’re still calculating as I talked to them, and they’re going to ask for all of that from the state, too.”

The financial success was the culmination of months of planning, which began when Jackson first mentioned his intention to host the event. On his podcast, The 25/10 Show with LeSean “Shady” McCoy, Jackson expressed his desire to see the coach’s first game between him and Vic take place in a place as big as Lincoln Financial Field. The game was originally scheduled for November 1, but was moved to a Thursday night match.

“But it’s crazy because we play them on November 1st. I’m trying to get that game at The Linc,”

As the designated home team, Delaware State had the discretion to move the game to an NFL stadium, a location change that was officially confirmed in July.

The star-studded event also attracted several notables, including rapper Meek Mill, The Breakfast Club’s DJ Envy and former NFL stars Cam Newton and Marshawn Lynch.

Jackson’s Hornets ended up defeating the Spartans 27-20. The win gave the Hornets key momentum as they continue their quest to secure a berth in the Celebration Bowl and win the MEAC Championship.
