NBA history New Orleans with 30 points another reason to fire Green

The The New Orleans Pelicans started the season in a terrible way and are currently under 0-6 Willie Green following their most recent 137-106 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. The 31-point loss ended a three-game road trip and extended a 13-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Further, the loss means the Pelicans are now the fastest team in the NBA to record three 30-point losses in a season, and that in just six games. The Denver Nuggets are in the 1990-91 season. recorded three such losses in nine games, while the San Antonio Spurs needed 11 games to accomplish the feat during the 2023-24 season, according to reporter Nate Duncan.

The Thunder crushed the Pelicans with an efficient offense, shooting 56 percent from the floor and outscoring New Orleans in transition and from distance. Oklahoma City made 13 of 24 three-pointers in the first half, and led by as many as 36 points in the fourth.

The Pelicans’ defense struggled conspicuously; opponents have taken advantage of New Orleans’ lack of physicality multiple times this season. New Orleans showed a persistent ability to collapse in the fourth quarter.

“Yeah, it’s a long season. A long season. You’ve got to stay together and keep working at it. I’m disappointed with the way we approached the game. I’m disappointed with the lack of toughness on the floor more than anything. That’s the tough part,” Green said after the game.

New CEO Joe Dumars and recently added members of the front office have questioned Green’s future despite ownership previously backing the coach, according to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoint. David Griffin reportedly wanted to part ways with Green before his firing, a move ownership reversed, but the new regime appears to be closer to making a different decision. As things stand, the front office is unlikely to continue unless the results change quickly.

Regardless, as things stand, fans will be hoping for a start that the Pelicans can end their ongoing slump.
