Tempo coach Sandy Brondello catches the Bucks game

The Toronto Raptors had a special guest during Tuesday’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks at Scotiabank Arena: Weather in Toronto coach Sandy Brondello.

A few hours before the competition, Tempo announced that they had signed Brondel as their first coach. The Tempo are the WNBA’s newest expansion team and will begin their inaugural season next year.

Brondello witnessed the Raptors’ decisive victory over the Bucks, 128-100, with Scotty Barnes and RJ Barrett at the helm with 23 points each. Barnes added six assists, four steals and two blocks, while Barrett also had eight rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Toronto improved to 4-4.

57-year-old Brondello was all smiles when she was presented to the crowd.

Toronto wasted no time in signing Brondello after she was released by the New York Liberty at the end of last season. She led the team to their first championship in 2024. They, however, failed to defend their title after being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.

The Tempo, co-owned by tennis legend Serena Williams, are the first WNBA team based outside the United States.

Brondello, who is originally from Australia, expressed her excitement for the final chapter in her career.

“I had a few options (to go elsewhere), but in the end I was really intrigued to start from scratch and build something with really good people and in another country,” Brondello said, according to an Associated Press report.

“This is Team Canada and I thought it would be very exciting, and I’m ready for any challenge.”

The Raptors have one of the most passionate fans in the NBA, making the Jurassic Park outside of Scotiabank Arena a widely known spectacle. It is certain that Brondello and Tempo will also get enough support.
