Shai Gilgeous-Alexander humbly accepts OKC’s ‘dynasty’ talk

In a game where Oklahoma City The Thunder set a franchise record in the midst of an 8-0 startAll-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander made NBA history with his 80th consecutive 20+ point game in a 126-101 win over the Los Angeles Clippers. Gilgeous-Alexander went on a 30+ point run before the final frame for the third straight night as his 18 points after halftime gave the Thunder their first double-digit lead in the fourth quarter against the Clippers.

After the win, a reporter asked Gilgeous-Alexander if the Thunder, in the midst of their perfect 8-0 record as the defending champions, have a shot at making the N.B.A. first dynasty of Golden State Warriors.

“Yes, every team has a chance,” Gilgeous-Alexander replied. “Every team starts the year 0-0. They have 82 games, and they get a chance to win all 82. Now, it doesn’t work out that way more often than not, but we understand the opportunity in front of us and, to sum it up, we just try to attack it every day. No matter where we are, no matter what we do, no matter what we lose, no matter what we win” trying to get better.

“And I think that’s the formula that helped us get to where we are today. Obviously to win a championship. Start like we did this year, or we have, so far, this year.”

The Thunder are off to the best start in franchise history without All-Star Jaylen Williams, who has yet to make his regular season debut, and in large part, without Chet Holmgren, who has missed nearly half of the regular season so far. It’s a testament to the Thunder’s growth as a team that keeps getting better, showing shades of a potential dynasty, seeing back-to-back titles.

“No matter what, we’re focused on getting better, and if you do that, you’ll look up and eventually be where you want to be,” Gilgeous-Alexander added. “No matter what it is. But this team does a great job of prioritizing it as individuals and as a unit, and good things happen for us because of it.”

Gilgeous-Alexander finished with 30 points on 9-of-14 shooting, including 4-for-5 from deep, 8-for-9 from the free throw line, 12 assists, four rebounds and three blocks against the Clippers.
