Cooper Flagg talks about the struggles of the NBA’s losing streak

Dallas Mavericks newcomer Cooper Flagg looked dejected as he spoke to reporters after their two-point loss to the New Orleans Pelicans, 101-99, at the American Airlines Center on Wednesday.

The Mavericks suffered their third straight loss, falling to 2-6, including 2-4 at home.

It was a challenging campaign for Flagg, to say the least. There was optimism in Dallas after the team drafted him as the first overall pick out of Duke, but he Anthony Davis’ latest injury and Kyrie Irving’s continued absence with a torn ACL have made it difficult to get wins.

18-year-old Flagg he did not hide his frustration when asked about their anemic start.

“For me, that’s the most (I’ve lost), you know, I think ever. So obviously it’s a lot different, and you’ve got to adjust to just playing a lot more games,” Flagg said in a video posted by sports reporter Abby Jones.

“But I wouldn’t say anybody’s happy. The guys are obviously trying to stay level and they know we’ve got a lot of games left and it’s still very early. But I mean, speaking personally, I know it’s not fun just to keep losing games.”

Flagg finished with a game-high 20 points, nine rebounds, two assists, three steals and two blocks against the back-to-back Pelicans.

It’s a tough ask for a teenager to carry a team, but Flagg is aware of the huge pressure that comes with a highly touted appearance.

He lost just five games in his only year with the Blue Devils, including their loss in the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament. But Flegg quickly realizes that the NBA is a much tougher field.
