Victor Wembanyama is still not playing to his advantage, says Gilbert Arenas
In the middle of San Antonio Conspiracy theories about the height of the stars by Victor Vembanyamaformer NBA player and podcast host Gilbert Arenas says that the young phenomenon is not playing to its full potential. For Arenas, Vembanyama didn’t quite realize the size of his stature that gives him a significant advantage over his competitors.
Arenas discussed how Vembanjama is such a unique talent with the kind of natural born ability he needs to use his advantage more oftenArenas said, per Gil’s Arena.
“It’s like he wants to be a guard so bad, but he goes into this mode when, io, just turn, face, shoot from here. It’s like anybody can block you,” Arenas said. “It’s like you’re only talking about that move, just that move. There are only a few people who can even fight that jumper.”
His over-the-top shooting is what makes Vembanyama one of the more unique talents the NBA has ever seen, a skill Gilbert Arenas believes is underutilized.
“He really doesn’t understand his advantage,” Arenas added. “His advantage is that he’s a lot taller than everybody else. So he gets the ball most of the time and he’ll crouch all the way down to make his move.”
Wembanyama and the Spurs’ 5-0 record is the best start in franchise history. However, after a 130-118 loss to the Phoenix Suns, Vembanyama finished with 19 points on 5-of-14 shooting, eight rebounds and three assists in a 118-116 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Vembanjama is averaging 25.6 points on 50.8% shooting, 12.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 4.1 blocks and 1.3 steals for the Spurs this season.
Victor Wembanyama’s confession after the Spurs’ loss to the Lakers

All-Star Victor Wembanyama responded to the loss to the Lakers in a two-point loss that could have gone either way, as the Spurs are 0-2 through the first week of November. After the defeat, Vembanyama turned to his own people personal flaws against the Lakers, according to ESPN’s Michael C. Wright.
“Personally, I haven’t seen teams defend like this,” Vembanyama said. “So we have to adapt as a collective. That was the case in the Phoenix game as well. Sometimes we were stuck. We are learning.”
The next opportunity for the Spurs to get back into the win column will be in the NBA Cup matchup against the Rockets on Friday.
