Why referees will no longer have to worry about Nikola Jokić swearing at them

On Saturday night, The Denver Nuggets have improved to 7-2 with a comfortable home win over the Indiana Pacers. It was a monster game for Nikola Jokićwho scored 32 points with 14 assists and 14 rebounds.

After the game, Jokić broke down a new approach he has to deal with trial calls he doesn’t agree with.

“That’s my new thing this year. I’m not going to stress or yell at the refs or whatever. I’m just going to try to match my energy with the basketball spot,” Jokic said, per MrBuckBuck on X, formerly Twitter.

Jokic hasn’t necessarily been the most notorious complainer in the NBA over the years, but he certainly has a habit of voicing his opinion in front of officials at times, so it will be interesting to see if he actually follows through on that promise this season.

As previously mentioned, the Denver Nuggets are now 7-2 and have the second-best net rating in the NBA at 13, just a decimal point behind the reigning NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder. Denver has won seven of its last eight games after a frustrating season-opening loss to the Golden State Warriors in which Aaron Gordon dropped 50 points.

The Nuggets have showcased their depth on a nightly basis so far this year, with Jokic often settling for less impressive stat lines while letting his teammates like Jamal Murray, Aaron Gordon and new trade acquisition Cam Johnson cook.

Still, Jokic is clearly the head of the snake, and is still more than capable of putting up huge numbers when his team needs him, as was the case on Saturday night.

Either way, the Nuggets will next take the court on Tuesday night on the road against the Sacramento Kings. That game will begin at 11:00 PM ET.
